Discover the answers to a question we get asked on every voyage, “How does a ship so big run so smoothly?” Find out on a behind-the-scenes tour that reveals the technology, teamwork, and tons of supplies that go into creating your Celebrity Cruise. Start in the Main Dining Room with a little hands-on lesson from the staff, and then, visit the Main Galley to see how our culinary team artfully prepares about 25,000 meals for our guests and crew each and every day. It’s an impressive achievement, especially when you think about all the exotic flavors you get to enjoy in Modern Luxury style aboard your Celebrity Cruise ship. Next up, pop into provisioning for a jaw-dropping look at the sheer volume of ingredients it takes to make it all happen. Here’s a little preview. We go through roughly 8,500 lbs of watermelon on every cruise. Not to mention, 10,000 bananas and 32,000 potatoes (give or take a few). Continue to the Engine Control Room, where expert engineers monitor the ship’s engines and onboard machinery - 24/7. You’ll learn how the engines do more than turn the giant props. They power all our onboard systems, including air-conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing and many others. This is the heart and soul of the cruise ship and you’ll enjoy a rare up-close look at how it operates. Afterwards, go for stroll down I-95, the “main highway” for the crew. It runs down the center of the ship and is named after the longest highway on the U.S. East Coast. Your next stop is Laundry, where thousands of items are cleaned and crisply folded every day– napkins to linens to beach towels. Marvel at massive machines that can hold 264 lbs. of laundry in every load. To put that in perspective, it’s like doing 14 loads of laundry in your machine at home all at once. The tour concludes with a real treat – a visit to the Bridge, where all the ship’s onboard systems are controlled. Step up and witness advanced navigation and communications equipment in action, and scan the sea from the same vantage point your Captain uses to chart the way. If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to run a cruise ship, this inside access tour provides plenty of answers, great insight, and a whole lot of excitement. For Celebrity Edge, some segments of this tour may vary. The onboard Environmental officer will give a brief lecture on what the provision area is and the detailed workings of our incinerator and our save the waves policy.
Highlights:
  • Join a crewmember for a rare inside-access look at the inner workings of your Celebrity Cruise Ship.
  • Visit the Bridge, Engine Control Room, and Laundry for a first-hand look at how the ship’s critical areas operate.
  • Stroll down the I-95 corridor in the crew’s quarters, named after the longest highway on the U.S. East Coast.

Situated at the foot of the Andes and bordered by the Beagle Channel, Ushuaia is often called the southernmost city in the world. Its remote location hampered development by anyone except the native Yamana people until the turn of the 20th century. Gold prospectors once swarmed the area, but rumors of gold proved false. The two and one-half walking tour includes visiting Government House, End-of-the-World Museum, Malvinas Memorial, St. Christopher Tugboat, and La Merced church and cemetery, all downtown. Continue hiking to the upper "paseo de las rosas" viewpoint, from which views of the city are spectacular. Then it’s on to the Thematic Gallery, situated in an unusual building and filled with depictions of Ushuaia’s early days. Walk through the many displays recreating historic moments and follow along on headphones that describe what you’re seeing. Then, walk back to the pier, musing about the history of this unique and remote place.

Situated in Iguazu National Park, these falls bisect the park into upper and lower circuits. Platforms, raised walkways, and trails make it convenient to see the wonders of this tropical rainforest. Then take an eco-train to the Devil's Throat, an 88-yard canyon the water pounds through with almost unbelievable force, producing a thundering sound and heavy clouds of mist before draining into the Rio Parana. General Information

What if I wish to tour on my own?
Guests who choose to explore destinations independently of Shore Excursions offered by Celebrity Cruises will be responsible for their own transportation.
Please Note:
Shore Excursions offered by Celebrity Cruises are led by experienced tour operators. When opting for individual transportation or tours, Celebrity Cruises® does not assume responsibility for any accidents or injuries, for the actions of local drivers, and does not supervise drivers to ensure safety or prompt return to the pier. All transportation and tours are provided and operated by independent contractors. Please remember that given the limited number of transportation facilities in some ports, relief cars may not be obtainable in case of breakdowns along the road, which can cause delays in returning to the pier.

Where should I go to meet my tour group?
Most tours will meet in a lounge on board the ship prior to departing. Shore Excursions ticket(s) will contain information regarding exact location(s) and departure time(s). For guest convenience, staff will be on hand to assist with questions regarding departure points and will guide guests to the designated meeting location(s).

How are tour times determined and how much time should be allocated for each?
Tour times are established according to information received from the local tour operators, but are subject to change should the vessel’s arrival time at the port be delayed or should circumstances arise whereby the itinerary for a particular Shore Excursion must, necessarily, be altered. Guests should be mindful of the fact that at ports where the ship lies at anchor, afternoon tours commence from the dockside, not the ship. Guests should, therefore, allow at least 30 minutes for the tender ride to shore.
Please Note:
When booking more than one tour in a day, guests should allow at least 60 minutes between the return of the first tour and the departure of the second tour.

How will I know what my tour departure time is?
Guests can refer to their Shore Excursion ticket(s) for departure information, as no announcements will be made on board the ship. Tour departure times may vary from those listed on the order form, especially in ports where the ship must tender guests ashore.

How much time should I allow to return to the ship?
All guests are required to be back aboard their ship no later than 30 minutes prior to the ship’s scheduled departure time, which is listed in the Daily Program and posted at the gangway. The scheduling of all Shore Excursions conforms to this requirement. However, if a guest leaves a tour en route, it will be the guest’s sole responsibility to secure transportation to return to the pier on time.

What happens if a tour is delayed?
If for any reason a Shore Excursion offered by Celebrity Cruises is delayed, the ship will be notified and await the tour’s return.
Please Note:
We are not responsible for any delays or cancellations regarding tours that are not booked through Celebrity Cruises. In the event a tour that is not booked through Celebrity Cruises is delayed, it will be the guest’s sole responsibility for making any necessary arrangements to return to port or their ship.

Is it possible to miss the ship?
Any number of unforeseen circumstances may contribute to a tour’s delay and cause a guest to miss the ship. However, Celebrity Cruises guarantees return to ship for all guests on Shore Excursions booked through Celebrity Cruises, at no expense to the guest.

What type of transportation is used for Shore Excursions?
Transportation to and from Shore Excursions may vary considerably.
Please Note:
Air-conditioned vehicles are not always available, nor do all tour buses have restroom facilities on board. Some countries have local restrictions and/or zoning laws that prohibit the use of the onboard facilities and prohibit the idling of engines while parked at the various venues. The air-conditioning systems may not be to North American standards. Cars, taxis, or mini-buses may be used in some ports where coaches are not available or are limited.
